XLAB

XLAB was set up in 2001. The company currently employs more than 100 people at its headquarters in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and subsidiaries in Great Britain and Switzerland. XLAB is one of the leading cloud computing companies in its region. Up until today partnership agreements with companies in over 30 countries have been signed. XLAB’s products empower hundreds of businesses with their software for secure cloud-based remote desktop control and live chat via the Internet – ISL Online, open-standards based 3D GIS with detailed geospatial data – Gaea+ along with SmartLocator, a mobile-based caller localisation service, custom 3D dental and radiology solutions with state of the art image visualization and analysis – MedicView and tool for remote interpretation of pre-transfusion tests – TeleTransfusion.

Their products pride themselves for simplicity of use, extendable features and possibility of integration with the existing systems, taking into account the legal constraints related to the protection of personal data – references include: identity management and federation security services within Contrail project (resulting in privacy-conscious file-usage and sharing – spinoff Koofr) and detecting malicious activities on mobile devices within operator’s and enterprise networks – ACDC project (resulting in the ICT Privacy and Security awarded Device Monitor application).

In over ten years of existence, continuous innovation and extensive research activities have built XLAB a reputation of one of the strongest research teams in Slovenia, holding 1st place among private research organization, according to 2012 European Commission study. The high-tech company has received many technology and entrepreneur awards, amongst others the “NASA World Wind Europa Challenge Award”, the “112 EENA Outstanding Emergency Services Award” and the “2014 ITM Exporter of the year title”.

XLAB is the coordinator of MIKELANGELO project. As an SME with experience in Cloud and HPC technologies it will also act as the stakeholder in the exploitation and dissemination of the project’s outputs. Key technical tasks: application packaging, virtual appliances management, orchestration and generation, integrating the MIKELANGELO stack into OpenStack and use case implementation.
